PET/CT Technologist
Glendale, CA
Full time – Temp to hire
Monday thru Friday – 8am to 5pm
$70hr to $90hr depending on experience.
Perform both PET/CT and diagnostic CT examinations utilizing GE PET/CT scanning equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Communicate findings to Radiologist as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates skill in the use of sensitive PET / CT equipment to obtain accurate and meaningful results; obtaining patient’s history and showing correlation of the clinical history with the test performed.
- Communicates effectively with radiologist(s) to obtain proper PET / CT and diagnostic CT scanning protocol instructions to follow for patient’s specific medical needs, indication for exam and/or diagnosis.
- Screens patient for any contraindications for PET / CT and/or CT scanning. Performs/obtains and reviews laboratory values for patients receiving radiopharmaceuticals and IV contrast.
- Communicates any abnormal results with the radiologist(s).
- Under the general supervision of the physician, prepares stock, solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses for PET/CT scanning.
- Use correct and antiseptic techniques to start intravenous lines on patients as needed for the administration of IV Contrast. Administers IV contrast as per the protocol instruction from radiologist and monitors patients for any possible adverse reactions. Discontinue intravenous lines as needed.
- Obtain the highest quality images, ensuring the anatomical area of interest is captured completely.
- Accurately performs reconstruction of images in projections/planes as indicated by protocol or radiologist.
- Maintains equipment calibration by performing quality control tests according to established procedures.
- Follows Radiation Safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Demonstrates skills in the proficient use of PACS and other applicable software.
- Prints film and/or CD of images when necessary.
- Assists in training new PET / CT and/or CT Technologist, as directed by the Lead Technologist and/or Site Manager. Practice sterile and isolation techniques to prevent cross-contamination and infection.
- Maintain cleanliness and disinfect equipment, supplies and room as needed.
- Maintains a high quality of patient care.
- Communicate in a positive and timely manner with coworkers, physicians, patients, and visitors. Maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed.
- Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Qualifications:
- 2 years’ work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Experience in an outpatient Radiology office preferred.
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within prescribed exam times.
- Ability to perform the identified essential functions of the position including the operation of any equipment associated with performing the essential functions.
- Ability to adhere to policies and practices including attendance and punctuality requirements.
- Comply with all applicable policies, rules and regulations as outlined by SDI, State and Federal regulations.
- Ability to maintain a calm and courteous demeanor and conduct business in a professional manner.
