Busy research institute with access to a mostly research-naive patient population providing clean and timely data to our pharmaceutical sponsors while offering a diversity of research options for our trial participants is seeking Pediatric Phlebotomist to join their team in Lynwood.

 

Summary: Seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Pediatric Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience drawing blood from infants, children, and adolescents in a clinical or hospital setting, with a strong emphasis on patient care, emotional sensitivity, and infection control. The Pediatric Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens for laboratory testing while ensuring the comfort and safety of young patients and maintaining accuracy and integrity in specimen handling.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture, heel sticks, and finger sticks on pediatric patients ranging from newborns to adolescents.
  • Create a calm, child-friendly environment to ease anxiety and fear in young patients and their families.
  • Identify patients accurately using proper identification procedures.
  • Prepare blood collection equipment and maintain sterile technique.
  • Label, process, and transport specimens according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of blood draws, patient interactions, and specimen tracking.
  • Follow all safety and infection control procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, parents/guardians, nurses, and medical staff.
  • Assist in training or mentoring new phlebotomy staff or students as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and restock phlebotomy stations.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program required.
  • Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NHA, NCCT, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year phlebotomy experience required; pediatric phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a pediatric clinic, hospital, or family health practice a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with children and caregivers.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a calm, reassuring demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
